Clive has extensive experience of a wide range of commercial dispute resolution gained by acting for corporate, individual and institutional clients over many years. His expertise covers contractual issues, professional negligence, corporate liability, contested insurance claims, and company disputes involving directors, shareholders and other investors.
Clive regularly conducts cases involving defamation and breach of privacy and he also advises publishers, editors and writers on pre and post publication legal issues.
His past cases include Page –v- Sheerness Steel (House of Lords – quantification of damages); Legal & General –v- Drake Insurance (Court of Appeal – double insurance); Evans –v- The “Birmingham Six” (defamation); GESCO –v- Anglo-Georgian (corporate libel) and Thomason –v- UCB (Court of Appeal – remedies for misrepresentation).
He is often involved in mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
Professional Recognition
Recommended in Legal 500 in 2006 and 2007 for Commercial Litigation and also in 2007 by Legal 500 for Defamation.
Education and Career
Clive was educated at Challney High School and Luton Sixth Form College (1966 – 1973), Warwick University (1974 – 1977) and the College of Law Chester (1977 – 1978). He also gained a diploma in American legal studies from the Salzburg Seminar (1986). Clive joined Lawrence Graham in 1978, and was a Partner there between 1983 and 2008. He became a Partner in Goodman Derrick in January 2009.
