Press release 16 June 2009
Goodman Derrick wins best recruiter award:
On 12 June 2009, the sixth annual LawCareers.Net awards took place in London. Based on a survey of over 3,000 trainees and newly qualified solicitors, the awards recognise the best recruiters and trainers among law firms. Having been nominated three times in the last three years, Goodman Derrick won the category of Best Recruiter (Medium size City firm).
LawCareers.Net publisher Matthew Broadbent said: "In a tough year for law graduate recruitment, it is more important than ever for the good guys to stand up and be counted. The employers who get the recruitment and training of trainees right do themselves and the trainees a service. The LC.N Training & Recruitment Awards, based on real experiences, are one of the best indicators of who has got it right."
Goodman Derrick's recruitment process is overseen by Tanya Shillingford and Helen Wyatt and it is gratifying to see their hard work properly recognized.

Two new senior appointments at Goodman Derrick LLP
Goodman Derrick LLP starts 2009 with the arrival of two new partners:
Clive Ince
Dispute resolution specialist, Clive Ince, joined the partnership on 5 January 2009.
For many years a partner at Lawrence Graham, where he also developed a successful
defamation practice, Clive now brings his extensive experience to Goodman Derrick's highly regarded dispute resolution team.
Clive's litigation experience is very broad and includes: investment and shareholder claims;
contentious aspects of commercial transactions; professional and corporate negligence;
and insurance related disputes. As well as conducting defamation and privacy cases, the
media law side of his practice regularly involves pre-publication and broadcast advice and
also managing legal risk generally for his clients.
Clive Ince commented: "I'm looking forward tremendously to working with my new
colleagues. From the first exploratory discussions, GD's partners were upbeat and
welcoming and, in business terms, my move to GD has very positive potential for us all."
Alison Downie
Acknowledged employment specialist Alison Downie arrives in February from Bindmans,
where she was previously Head of Department.
Alison specialises in the full range of employment law, advising and representing employers
and employees on all types of employment and procedural issues. Her clients include Plc’s,
charities, media organisations and publishers, co-operatives, voluntary and community
organisations, professional partnerships, and barristers’ chambers.
Her experience ranges from taking cases from the employment tribunal, to the courts, and
right up to the House of Lords. Alison’s recent reported case cases include acting for senior
banker Peter Lewis in the groundbreaking and first City claim for gay discrimination against
HSBC Bank plc; representing John Reaney who won the first gay discrimination case against
the Church of England; currently she acts for undercover journalist and nurse Norma
Ndbele from the award winning Channel 4 Dispatches programme “Undercover Angels” in
regulatory proceedings before the Nursing and Midwifery Council arising out of the
undercover filming in hospitals.
Tim Langton, Head of Goodman Derrick's dispute resolution team said: "We see great potential for both Clive and Alison at Goodman Derrick. Not only do they
both possess a wealth of experience but each has an impressive track record in assisting
prominent clients. Clive’s media law expertise will compliment our well established
practice in this sector. We see terrific opportunities for him to extend relationships with
our many of our existing clients and we also look forward to meeting the wider needs of
the clients who have instructed him for many years. Alison Downie is also very highly
regarded in the industry and I know our employment team are looking forward to working
with her.
Clive and Alison's arrival follows hard on the heels of our appointment of dispute resolution
specialist Jonthan Haydn-Williams, formerly at Hextalls, towards the end of 2008, who also
enables us to enhance and extend the service we can offer."
