Goodman Derrick Expands Market-Leading Collector Car Practice

Goodman Derrick has enhanced its leading position in the growing international trade in high-value cars by appointing Damen Bennion as a partner in its Collector Car practice.

Goodman Derrick entered this unusual niche market 16 years ago, when Martin Emmison joined the firm, bringing with him his high-value car practice. Since then Martin has documented hundreds of transactions for collectors and dealers.  Over the last three years the firm has handled several sales and purchases in the $30 million range, and this year’s deals alone approach $100 million in value. Clients of the practice include collectors from the UK, USA, the Middle East, Australia, Hong Kong, Germany, France, Sweden, Belgium, Italy and Switzerland.

The firm’s collector car group is joined this week by new partner Damen Bennion, an experienced transactional lawyer and a collector of Aston Martin and Porsche. Damen has most recently been principal in-house lawyer at the John Lewis Partnership and prior to that held senior roles at J Sainsbury PLC.

Announcing the expansion of his team, Martin Emmison said:

“This practice is as unique as the cars we are handling. Over the last 16 years we have  applied our legal knowledge and passion for cars to help our clients get what they bargained for, a  skill that can’t be learnt at college. I am therefore delighted to welcome Damen to the team.”

Damen Bennion added:

“These are exciting times for the collector car world and I’m really pleased to be joining Goodman Derrick’s market leading practice.”

Tanya Shillingford, head of Corporate at Goodman Derrick:

“This investment in Martin’s team shows the importance we attach to maintaining our leading position in this fascinating market and to growing the practice.”
